Short on time? Here’s the best VPN to get a Mexican IP address in 2023:
- 🥇 Private Internet Access: Provides excellent security and privacy features, maintains very fast speeds, works with Mexican sites like Netflix Mexico, and supports torrenting. PIA is also easy to use, allows up to 10 connections, is affordable, and has a 30-day money-back guarantee.
The best way to get a Mexican IP address is to use a VPN, an online service that lets you connect to VPN servers in different countries. Once you do that, the VPN server changes your real IP address to a new IP address that matches the location you’re connecting to (in this case, Mexico). You can then surf sites, download files, and watch videos as if you were actually located in Mexico.
In addition, VPNs also encrypt your traffic — that means they make it completely unreadable, so hackers can’t spy on it. VPNs are also affordable, easy to use, and legal.
I tested all of the top VPNs on the market and I was able to get a Mexican IP address with each of my top 3 picks.
3 Steps (Quick + Easy) to Getting a Mexican IP Address in 2023:
- Step 1. Pick a VPN. Choose a good VPN with at least 1 server in Mexico. I recommend Private Internet Access — it works with Mexican sites like Netflix Mexico, allows torrenting on its Mexican server, and has high-end security and privacy features.
- Step 2. Install the VPN. This easy process usually takes 1–2 minutes (just follow the installation wizard). If you want to install the VPN on multiple devices, check how many simultaneous connections the VPN offers — Private Internet Access, my top pick, allows 10 connections.
- Step 3. Connect to a Mexican server. Open the VPN app, find the list of server locations, and select a server in Mexico — you now have a Mexican IP address and can access the internet as if you’re in Mexico!
The 3 Best VPNs for Getting a Mexican IP Address
Quick summary of the best VPNs for getting a Mexican IP address:
- 🥇1. Private Internet Access — Best overall VPN for getting a Mexican IP address.
- 🥈2. TunnelBear — Excellent for beginners (with fun, bear-themed apps).
- 🥉3. IPVanish — Good for torrenting.
- Bonus. Surfshark — Good for large families (with cheap plans).
🥇1. Private Internet Access — Best VPN for Getting a Mexican IP Address

Private Internet Access (PIA) is my favorite VPN for getting a Mexican IP address — while it only has 1 virtual Mexican server, it still provides the best overall performance out of all the other VPNs on this list (and it’s ranked as one of the best VPNs in 2023).
PIA provided me with the fastest speeds on this list — Mexican sites loaded instantly, HD and 4K videos didn’t buffer, my Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) calls never dropped, and I downloaded 35 GB files in 10 minutes, which is extremely fast.
And PIA offers excellent streaming and torrenting support. It works with Mexican sites like Netflix Mexico — so if you have a Mexican Netflix account and travel abroad, you can use PIA to watch your country’s titles. Also, PIA allows torrenting on its Mexican server, works with top P2P apps like uTorrent and Vuze, and allows port forwarding (a feature that lets you connect to more peers to get faster speeds).
I also really like PIA’s PIA MACE feature, which blocks ads and connections to malicious sites. I ran multiple tests, and PIA MACE always got rid of annoying ads on Mexican sites. It was also able to block my connections to shady Mexican sites.
PIA’s no-logs policy has been audited and confirmed, and it’s also been proven true in multiple court documents (which you can read online). What’s more, PIA also has open-source apps, which means anyone can inspect the code for security vulnerabilities. And I also like that PIA comes with advanced security features like RAM-only servers (every server reset wipes all data) and that it has a kill switch on its iOS app (most VPNs don’t offer kill switches on iOS). All in all, it’s very easy to trust this VPN with your privacy.
Private Internet Access allows 10 simultaneous connections, has several paid plans, with pricing starting at $2.19 / month, and backs all purchases with a 30-day money-back guarantee.

🥈2. TunnelBear — Great VPN for Beginners

TunnelBear comes with user-friendly apps that are simple to install and use. What’s more, TunnelBear’s apps are very fun to use, too — you can use a digital map to connect to the Mexican server, and when you do that, an animated bear digs a tunnel to the server’s location (on iOS and Android, the bear even roars).
TunnelBear makes heavy use of bear animations and puns in its app design, so it’s also perfect for people who are worried that VPNs are too complicated to use — for example, its kill switch is called “VigilantBear” and its connection notifications have bears that wear country-specific costumes (when I connected to the Mexican server, the bear wore a sombrero).
And TunnelBear is also really good for streaming and torrenting — it works with top sites like Netflix Mexico and Disney+ Mexico, and it allows torrenting on its Mexican server.
Still, while TunnelBear performed well in my speed tests, it wasn’t as fast a Private Internet Access — Mexican sites loaded instantly, but HD videos took 3 seconds to load, 4K videos took 6 seconds to load and there was minor buffering when the videos started, and it took me 25 minutes to download 35 GB torrents (the same files took 15 minutes less to download with Private Internet Access).
I like that TunnelBear releases an annual transparency report that details how many requests for user data the provider received. Also, its website, code, and apps undergo regular security audits, and the results are always made public. There’s also full leak protection — I ran multiple leak tests and never saw my real IP address, just TunnelBear’s Mexican IP addresses.
TunnelBear allows unlimited connections and has a free plan, which lets you use the Mexican server. While I like that I can test TunnelBear’s features for free, the free plan limits you to 500 MB per month — that’s only enough for a few hours of web browsing. To get unlimited data, you need to get one of TunnelBear’s paid plans, which start at $4.16 / month. But unlike Private Internet Access, TunnelBear doesn’t come with a money-back guarantee.

🥉3. IPVanish — Good for Torrenting

IPVanish is a reliable VPN for torrenting with a Mexican IP address — it allows P2P traffic on all of its Mexican servers and works with popular torrenting apps like Deluge and Transmission. IPVanish is also decent for streaming since it works with Netflix Mexico, but unlike Private Internet Access, it doesn’t work with Amazon Prime Mexico and Disney+ Mexico.
Unfortunately, IPVanish isn’t as fast as Private Internet Access and TunnelBear. Mexican sites usually loaded in 3–4 seconds, HD videos took 5 seconds to load, and 4K videos loaded in 9 seconds and I noticed minor buffering when skipping through the videos. Also, it took me 40 minutes to download 35 GB files — it’s not bad, but the same files took 30 minutes less to download with Private Internet Access and 15 minutes less to download with TunnelBear.
I like that IPVanish comes with advanced security features like perfect forward secrecy, which changes your encryption key for each connection to prevent hackers from compromising past or future encryption keys to monitor your traffic. It also has a strict no-logs policy that has been independently audited and verified, though I wish IPVanish would make the audit’s results public (it’d be easier to trust the VPN that way).
However, I don’t like that IPVanish is missing WebRTC leak protection (Private Internet Access and TunnelBear provide full leak protection). I didn’t see any leaks in my leak tests (my real IP address was never visible, I only saw IPVanish’s Mexican IP addresses), but I still recommend manually disabling WebRTC to be 100% safe.
IPVanish has monthly and yearly plans that start at $3.33 / month — I really like that the yearly plan is bundled with a VIPRE antivirus subscription (for Windows and Mac users only). It also comes with a 30-day money-back guarantee, but only for its longest subscriptions.
Bonus. Surfshark — Great VPN for Large Families & Very Affordable

Surfshark allows unlimited connections, which means you can use it on as many devices as you want — so it’s a great option if everyone in your family needs a good VPN. I’m also happy to see this because very few VPNs support unlimited connections.
It comes with really good security features, including CleanWeb, which is one of the best VPN ad blockers out there. In addition, it provides obfuscation, double VPN connections for added security, and IP Rotator, which regularly changes your IP address to make it harder for someone to track your location. The provider also has advanced security features like RAM-only servers and perfect forward secrecy — however, it’s missing full leak protection (but I never experienced any leaks in my tests).
You also get pretty good streaming support, as the VPN can access top sites like Netflix, HBO Max, and BBC iPlayer — though it can’t access Disney+. It also supports P2P downloads across all of its servers.
There are 3,200+ servers in 90+ countries, which makes it simple to use nearby servers for fast speeds. Speaking of speeds, the provider has fast connections on most servers, but I did experience significant slowdowns on very distant servers.
Surfshark is also one of the most affordable VPNs on the market, with plans starting at only $2.30 / month — so it’s also a good pick if you’re on a tight budget. All plans come with a 30-day money-back guarantee.

How to Choose the Best VPN for Getting a Mexican IP Address
- Servers in Mexico. A VPN needs to have Mexican servers — otherwise, it can’t provide you with a Mexican IP address. All my top picks come with at least 1 server in Mexico.
- Strong security. All the VPNs on this list secure your data with 256-bit AES encryption, a kill switch (disables online access if the VPN disconnects to prevent data leaks), protection against IPv6, DNS, and WebRTC leaks, and a no-logs policy (to prevent the VPN from logging your traffic and IP address).
- Fast speeds. All VPNs will slow down your online speeds because they encrypt your traffic — but the best VPNs will minimize the speed loss so that it’s not noticeable. All the VPNs I recommend come with fast speeds for all online activities (Private Internet Access is the fastest on this list).
- Streaming and torrenting support. Websites like Netflix have different content libraries for each country — so if you have a Mexican Netflix account and travel abroad, you might lose access to your country’s library. But a good VPN will let you watch your country’s titles anywhere in the world. Also, all my top picks allow torrenting on their Mexican servers.
- Ease of use. I only recommend VPNs that have apps that are very simple to install and work on all major platforms. What’s more, their apps are intuitive, so it’s very simple to find and connect to Mexican servers.
- Good value. All the VPNs on this list come with extra features (like split-tunneling and ad blockers), allow multiple simultaneous connections (Private Internet Access allows 10 connections), and have affordable plans. Also, 2 of my top 3 picks (Private Internet Access and IPVanish) have 30-day money-back guarantees.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I torrent with a Mexican IP address?
Yes, you can use a Mexican IP address while torrenting, but you need a good torrenting VPN that has Mexican servers. I recommend Private Internet Access because it works with top P2P apps like Deluge and Vuze, has very fast download speeds, and allows port forwarding.
What’s the best VPN for getting a Mexican IP address?
My favorite VPN for getting a Mexican IP address in 2023 is Private Internet Access — it has excellent security and privacy features, maintains very fast speeds, and works with top Mexican sites like Netflix Mexico.
But the other VPNs on this list are also good picks — IPVanish is great for beginners and TunnelBear is good for torrenting.
Can I watch Netflix with a Mexican IP address?
Sites like Netflix provide different content libraries for all countries. So if you have a Mexican Netflix account and go to another country, you might lose access to your country’s titles — but you can use a Mexican IP address to watch Mexican shows and movies anywhere in the world.
To watch Netflix Mexico abroad, you need to use a VPN that has servers in Mexico and works with Netflix. I recommend Private Internet Access — it consistently works with Netflix Mexico, provides very fast streaming, and is really user-friendly.
Can I use a free VPN to get a Mexican IP address?
Yes, TunnelBear has a free plan that lets you use its Mexican server— but it limits you to 500 MB per month, which is only enough for a few hours of web browsing, and not enough for HD streaming and torrenting.
There are other VPNs with better free plans out there, but I recommend you avoid them — free VPNs usually have slow speeds, limit how much data you can use, lack important security and privacy features, and have buggy apps.
Instead, I recommend getting a low-cost premium VPN like Private Internet Access, one of TunnelBear’s paid plans, or IPVanish.
