SafetyDetectives spoke with the founder and CEO of Codiant, Vikrant Jain, about the cybersecurity vulnerabilities in apps, essential elements that are needed in app development, and how his company ensures data security for their clients.

Can you please introduce yourself and talk about your role at Codiant?

My name is Vikrant Jain, and I’m the Founder & Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Codiant – A Yash Technologies Company. My role in Codiant is in the realm of devising and executing strategic initiatives for the company, designing profitable business models for digital businesses, and evolving our portfolio of offerings.

Additionally, I focus my energies on long-term customer partnerships, enabling rapid client adoption, and spearheading the company’s expansion efforts while nurturing a strong team to drive its execution.

What makes Codiant stand out in a crowded web and app development market?

Despite the fierce competition and intense battle for attention waged by several companies in the IT industry, over the last six years, we have significantly marked industry-leading growth in Application Development and Digital transformation services.
Our efficacy is well dictated by our strategic combination of paragon team, best agile practices, and immersive user experience designs- all accelerated by our diverse teams engaged in an inclusive workplace.

We also understand great responsibility comes with an impactful transformation. To ensure, we leverage the potential of advanced technologies like AI, AR, VR, and blockchain to bring radical cost reductions, unlock new solutions for persistent challenges, and enhance user experience with a vast array of positive use cases rewarded by these technologies.

Codiant, for this part, stands out as we do everything in a purposeful way- without losing sight of our values, ethics, well-defined work, our human creativity, and ingenuity involved in our application development journey.

What are some of the biggest security vulnerabilities that you see with apps that people may not know about?

Web and mobile applications, if their security is not handled in an effective way, the vulnerabilities can become an attractive target for hackers.

While there are several security vulnerabilities that can pose risks to mobile apps, some of them that people may not be aware of are failures to incorporate proper binary protections that can make apps susceptible to reverse engineering, tampering, or code injection attacks.

Incorrectly implemented authentication processes and session management can lead to unauthorized access to user accounts. Data in transit and at rest, like health records, personal information, and credit card numbers, can lead to cryptographic failures. Transmitting data over unsecured channels can expose sensitive information to capture by attackers.

What security measures do you have in place to secure your client’s data?

With applications and software development getting more complex by the day, we cannot apply the same security solution to all applications. To secure it, we gather a thorough understanding of the app’s behavior and its various functionalities.

Since security should be embedded in every phase of app development, we audit and monitor different phases of the app development lifecycle. And embed security into the running application without affecting the application design.

To maintain a secure environment for our client’s data and sensitive information, we use strong encryption algorithms, implement strict access controls, minimize the amount of sensitive data to reduce potential breaches, deploy secure infrastructure components, such as firewalls, intrusion detection, and prevention systems to protect against external threats.

We also implement and adhere to relevant data protection regulations and industry-specific compliance standards to ensure client data is handled and protected in accordance with legal requirements.

Other practices like Regular Software Updates and Patching and Employee Training and Awareness help us ensure our software are up to date and our client’s data is safeguarded in all aspects.

What are three essential elements when developing a mobile or website app?

Be it a mobile app or a website, if seen through the eyes of your customers can bring immense- tangible and intangible- value to your business.

  1. Putting your renewed focus on ‘User Experience Design’ anchored to the end-user’s needs, underlying motivations, and empathy can generate tremendous commercial success.
  2. Keeping up with metrics like App ‘Performance and Reliability’ that moves with the pace of users’ actions i.e., responds quickly and delivers efficiently without any downtime or crashes, can enhance user satisfaction.
  3. Last but most paramount, App ‘Security and Privacy,’ which protects the app against any potential threats, should be enforced with robust authentication mechanisms and developed with secure coding practices to prevent vulnerabilities. Further, ensuring certain privacy regulations and user consent requirements can help protect user privacy and build trust.

What role do you see AI playing in the field of app and web development?

AI, no doubt, is mainstreaming the App development economy. Evolving customer needs and technological evolution is the quintessential boundary pusher.

Today, high-tech players are reinventing the relationship between their clients and their end customers through a curated AI-powered platform that helps them create a more predictable ecosystem.

AI today has the twin power to fuel both the ‘Develop’ and ‘Market Stage’ of App development. Its powerful features, like Intelligent Automation, Cybersecurity, Code Optimization, and Quality Assurance, are offering multiple benefits and opportunities to accelerate the development process.

AI is not only saturating the market with a secure and enhanced customer experience but has become a new formula for product teams to innovate and experiment rapidly.

With this trailblazing technology at Codiant, we’re rewriting the application borders. By leveraging our existing foothold in app development across industries, we are orchestrating AI-powered solutions that could make a strategic bet in growth markets.
