VPN Unlimited Review: Quick Expert Summary

VPN Unlimited is a decent VPN, but there are much better options out there. The VPN has excellent streaming support, easy-to-use apps, and a large server network.

It comes with industry-standard security features like 256-bit AES encryption, a kill switch, and a strict no-logs policy. It also has split-tunneling (only on Android devices), dedicated IP addresses, and a personal server.

However, the VPN lacks some important features — it doesn’t have advanced security features, like RAM-only servers, perfect forward secrecy, and full leak protection. What’s more, its no-logs policy hasn’t been independently audited. Plus, it causes slowdowns on distant servers, and it lacks 24/7 live chat. There are better VPNs on the market, like ExpressVPN, which comes with industry-leading security features, the fastest speeds on the market, live chat support, and more.

VPN Unlimited offers several plans, including monthly, yearly, and lifetime plans. It also has a 7-day free trial, which comes with all the features of the paid plans. All plans are backed by a 30-day money-back guarantee.

VPN Unlimited Full Review

VPN Unlimited Full Review

I spent a couple of weeks testing VPN Unlimited to see how it compares to the top VPNs on the market. The VPN has excellent streaming support and a large server network. It also has multiple advanced connection options like dedicated IPs.

However, it has some drawbacks — it lacks advanced security features, like RAM-only servers, and it isn’t so good for torrenting. It only allows P2P traffic on 3 servers, and it’s missing a live chat.

Overall, VPN Unlimited is decent, but other VPNs on the market provide better value.

VPN Unlimited Features

VPN Unlimited comes with industry-standard VPN security features, including:

  • 256-bit AES encryption — VPN Unlimited uses the same encryption used by banks and governments to protect your data.
  • No-logs policy — VPN Unlimited doesn’t log your personal data, browsing activity, and files you download.
  • Kill switch — If your VPN connection drops, a kill switch will disconnect your internet connection to prevent any leaks. The kill switch is available on Android 8 and higher, iOS, Windows, and macOS devices.

VPN Unlimited offers secure and fast protocols, including OpenVPN, WireGuard, IKEv2/IPSec, and KeepSolid Wise (its proprietary protocol). KeepSolid Wise obfuscates your connection, making it harder to detect and block since it looks just like normal internet traffic.

However, the VPN lacks advanced security features like RAM-only servers and perfect forward secrecy — unlike top VPNs such as ExpressVPN and Private Internet Access.

The VPN has DNS and WebRTC leak protection. Even though it’s missing IPv6 protection, I experienced no leaks when I ran leak tests while connected to servers in 10+ countries.

VPN Unlimited also comes with extra features, including:

  • Split-tunneling — Lets you choose which apps go through the VPN tunnel while directing the rest through your local network connection. I was able to get faster speeds for streaming when I routed only my Chrome browser app through the VPN. Unfortunately, it’s only available on Android devices. Private Internet Access has one of the best split-tunneling tools, as you can exclude apps and websites, and it works with Android, Windows, macOS, and Linux.
  • Dedicated IP address — For an additional cost, you can purchase a dedicated IP address, which is an IP address that is only assigned to you. With a dedicated IP address, you’ll have benefits like avoiding repetitive reCAPTCHAs. These tests are used by websites to confirm that you’re not a bot, and they can block you if they detect that you’re using a VPN’s shared IP address. VPN Unlimited offers dedicated IP addresses for Canada, the Netherlands, the US, and the UK. My colleague in the US said that he was able to access his bank account with VPN Unlimited’s dedicated IP address. That said, NordVPN offers dedicated IP addresses in 10+ countries, and they’re much cheaper than VPN Unlimited’s.
  • Personal server — Available for an extra cost, a personal server is dedicated to you only, so you’ll get faster speeds. Plus, all personal server subscriptions include a free VPN subscription. It also includes a personal IP in the country you select and router support, so you can connect all your devices to the VPN. There are personal servers in the US, Europe, and Asia. My colleague from the US experienced no slowdowns when connected to a personal server in New York.
  • Passwarden — A secure password manager that keeps your passwords in one location secured with a master password. It comes with some valuable extras like a password generator, an auto-fill function, and secure password storage. It also offers advanced features like dark web monitoring and Duress Mode. However, the auto-fill feature worked for logins but fails to fill in information on online payment forms, and password sharing is only possible with other Passwarden account holders. While it’s not as good as a top-flight password manager like 1Password, Passwarden is a good basic option that’s included with the VPN.

VPN Unlimited Privacy & Security

VPN Unlimited has a strict no-logs policy. VPN Unlimited’s privacy policy states that it collects your IP address and geographical location upon registration to determine the fastest server for you, but it doesn’t see it during your VPN session. It also stores device information like the device name, operating system, and app usage to identify the device and carry out its support.

I would like to see VPN Unlimited’s no-logs policy go through an independent audit. Top VPNs like ExpressVPN and Private Internet Access have had their no-logs policies independently audited and confirmed.

VPN Unlimited Privacy & Security

VPN Unlimited is headquartered in the US, which is a member of the 5/9/14 Eyes Alliances (a group of countries that share security data). However, VPN Unlimited will have nothing to hand over in case a government requests data since the VPN states that it doesn’t store users’ data.

Overall, VPN Unlimited has a strict no-logs policy, but it hasn’t been independently audited. Plus, it is based in a 5/9/14 Eyes Alliance member country.

VPN Unlimited Speed & Performance

I ran speed tests on my Windows PC on servers in all 80+ locations where VPN Unlimited has a server. I experienced the fastest speeds when connected to a nearby server (in North Macedonia), but there was a slight drop in speeds when I connected to distant servers in countries like Australia and Japan.

First, I ran a speed test without a VPN connection to determine my internet speeds:

VPN Unlimited Speed & Performance

Then, I clicked on the optimal server button, and I was connected to the nearest server to my location.

Finally, I connected to a distant server in Australia. Here are my speeds:

VPN Unlimited Speed & Performance

When I connected to a nearby VPN server, my speeds dropped by about 44%. That said, sites loaded instantly, but I experienced minor buffering when I tried to load HD videos.

When I connected to a distant server in Australia, my speeds dropped by 85%. Sites took 2–3 seconds to load, and there were 5-second interruptions when I was trying to watch HD videos.

Overall, VPN Unlimited slowed down my speeds by as much as 85% — a top VPN like ExpressVPN is able to maintain fast speeds across all servers. That said, websites still loaded quickly, but videos played with some interruptions.

VPN Unlimited Servers & IP Addresses

VPN Unlimited has 3,000+ servers in 50+ countries — so you’ll easily be able to connect to a fast nearby server no matter where you live. The server network is less than ExpressVPN and CyberGhost VPN, which have servers in 100+ countries. However, VPN Unlimited’s server network is larger than TunnelBear, which has servers in 47 countries.

The provider has dedicated servers for streaming and torrenting. It has 10 streaming servers that are optimized for specific streaming sites, like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Hulu, and more. VPN Unlimited offers 3 P2P-optimized server locations in Canada, France, and Romania.

VPN Unlimited offers dedicated IPs in 4 different locations for an extra cost. It has dedicated IP addresses in Canada, the Netherlands, the US, and the UK.

Overall, VPN Unlimited has a solid server network, comes with dedicated servers for streaming and torrenting, and offers dedicated IP addresses.

VPN Unlimited Streaming & Torrenting

VPN Unlimited is excellent for streaming — it has 10 dedicated servers for streaming that are optimized to work with popular streaming platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, BBC iPlayer, and Hulu. My colleagues in the US and the UK tested these servers and found they worked well. VPN Unlimited also claims to work with less popular streaming sites, including Rai.tv and Popcornflix. While VPN Unlimited’s streaming support is really good, I still prefer ExpressVPN, which works with 100+ streaming services and maintains the fastest speeds on the market.

VPN Unlimited Streaming & Torrenting

I wasn’t very impressed with the VPN’s torrenting support. It has 3 P2P-optimized server locations and works with popular P2P apps like BitTorrent, uTorrent, and Vuze without any issues. The VPN also has a SOCKS5 proxy, which changes your IP address but doesn’t use encryption, so it provides significantly faster download speeds. However, I don’t like how you’re limited to just a couple of server locations — for example, ExpressVPN and Private Internet Access allow torrenting on all of their servers and have faster download speeds.

VPN Unlimited also has strong security features for torrenting, as it comes with DNS and WebRTC leak protection. I ran leak tests on P2P servers in 5+ countries before downloading any torrents, and I didn’t experience any leaks.

VPN Unlimited Plans & Pricing

VPN Unlimited has 3 tier-based subscriptions for monthly, yearly, or lifetime plans, and plans start as low as $5.00 / month. The Standard subscription gives access to 3,000+ servers and allows 1 account per several devices. The Secure Duo subscription adds a password manager, data leak and Dark Web monitoring, and the MonoDefense subscription includes an authenticator tool for TFA-protected accounts, protection from shady sites, and filtering of malicious internet traffic. However, I still feel that top VPNs like ExpressVPN and Surfshark offer better value overall.

All plans have a 30-day money-back guarantee. You can purchase a subscription using various payment methods, like credit/debit card, cryptocurrency, PayPal Amazon Pay, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Microsoft Pay.

VPN Unlimited Ease of Use: Mobile & Desktop Apps

VPN Unlimited Ease of Use: Mobile & Desktop Apps

VPN Unlimited has easy-to-use apps for Android, Windows, macOS, iOS, and Linux. It also has apps for Android TV, FireTV, Roku, Google Chromecast, and browser extensions for Chrome, Firefox, Opera, and Edge. Moreover, the VPN supports manual router setups (though I’d choose one of the VPNs on this list that have better router support).

It offers an intuitive interface on both desktop and mobile devices. All of the apps have the same interface and options, including a large power button for quick connections, and the optimal server feature that connected me to the fastest server in my location. However, split-tunneling is only available on Android apps.

Overall, VPN Unlimited has intuitive apps for nearly all major devices. Its apps are easy to use, but the split-tunneling feature is only included on Android devices.

VPN Unlimited Customer Support

VPN Unlimited Customer Support

VPN Unlimited offers channels for customer support. It has email support, troubleshooting guides, set-up tutorials, and FAQs, but there’s no live chat.

I tested VPN Unlimited’s email support for their responsiveness and knowledge. I sent emails at different times of the day, and it took from 6 minutes to 12 hours to receive a response. The slow response time was only for emails sent late at night. That said, every response I received was knowledgeable, so I didn’t have to send follow-up questions.

VPN Unlimited Customer Support

The VPN offers helpful support through FAQs, setup tutorials, and general troubleshooting topics. It also provides instructions for installing VPN Unlimited on different devices and in-depth explanations about the VPN’s features.

Overall, VPN Unlimited customer support is decent — It offers email support, FAQs, common troubleshooting issues, setup guides for all devices, and explanations about its features. However, it lacks live chat, and the email response time can be slow during late hours.

Is VPN Unlimited Worth the Cost?

VPN Unlimited is a pretty good VPN but it’s not as good as the top VPNs out there. It has excellent streaming support, easy-to-use apps, and a large server network.

It comes with industry-standard security features, including 256-bit AES encryption, DNS and WebRTC leak protection, and a no-logs policy. It also offers some extra features, such as split-tunneling (only on the Android app), dedicated IP addresses, and a personal server for extra cost.

However, VPN Unlimited lacks some advanced security features like RAM-only servers and perfect forward secrecy, and its no-logs policy hasn’t been independently audited. It also causes noticeable slowdowns on distant servers, only allows torrenting on 3 server locations, and doesn’t have a live chat.

VPN Unlimited offers several tiered plans and a 7-day free trial. Plus, all plans have a 30-day money-back guarantee.

Frequently Asked Questions

However, VPN Unlimited doesn’t have advanced security features like perfect forward secrecy, RAM-only servers, and IPv6 leak protection. Top VPN providers like ExpressVPN and Private Internet Access come with many of these advanced security features.

Does VPN Unlimited work with Netflix?

Yes, VPN Unlimited works with Netflix. In my tests, I was always able to watch my local Netflix. The VPN provider also has dedicated streaming servers for Netflix, BBC iPlayer, Hulu, and Disney+.

Does VPN Unlimited allow torrenting?

Yes, VPN Unlimited has 3 P2P-optimized servers. It also works with top P2P apps like BitTorrent, uTorrent, and Vuze. It has a SOCKS5 proxy server which provides faster speeds for downloading. Does VPN Unlimited keep logs of my online activities?

No, VPN Unlimited has a strict no-logs policy, and its privacy policy states that it doesn’t store your IP address after the VPN session ends (all VPNs need to know your IP address when you connect, but they encrypt this even from themselves). Still, I prefer a VPN that has verified its no-logs policy through an independent audit, such as ExpressVPN.

Bottom Line

VPN Unlimited is secure, has great streaming support, and provides easy-to-use apps. It has industry-standard VPN security features like 256-bit AES encryption, a no-logs policy, and DNS and WebRTC leak protection. You also get extra features like split tunneling, a personal server, and a dedicated IP address (at an additional cost).
