RUSVPN Full Review
I spent a few weeks testing and researching RUSVPN to see how it compares to the best VPNs on the market.
I like RUSVPN for torrenting. It allows P2P traffic on all 1,200+ servers, it works with the top torrenting apps, and it has very fast downloads. Plus, RUSVPN is secure and has a good no-logs policy.
However, its apps are glitchy, you can’t watch content on Netflix, Disney+, and other popular streaming sites, it doesn’t come with extra security features like split-tunneling, and it has terrible customer support.
All in all, RUSVPN is a decent VPN that provides good speeds for basic browsing and downloading files, but it’s missing advanced security features and other convenient tools that I look for in top VPNs.
RUSVPN Features
RUSVPN has the following industry-standard security features:
- 256-bit AES encryption — RUSVPN protects your data with bank-grade encryption.
- No-logs policy — RUSVPN doesn’t record your IP address and online traffic.
- Kill switch — This feature disables your internet if your VPN connection drops, protecting you from traffic leaks.
RUSVPN uses OpenVPN and IKEv2/IPSec protocols. They’re both secure and fast, but I’d like to see RUSVPN add WireGuard, which is faster than OpenVPN and IKEv2/IPSec — CyberGhost VPN and Private Internet Access use WireGuard, and they are two of the fastest VPNs on the market.
I like that RUSVPN provides leak protection against IPv6, DNS, and WebRTC leaks. I ran leak tests on servers in 10+ countries and RUSVPN didn’t have any issues.
RUSVPN doesn’t have any additional in-app features, but there are a few extra features that you can access on its website:
- Virus scan. RUSVPN claims this feature scans files and links for malware, but when I pressed the Check button, nothing happened. I emailed customer support about this flaw, but I didn’t get a reply. If you’re looking for a good malware scanner, I recommend using Norton 360 or one of the other top antivirus programs on the market.
- Password generator. RUSVPN lets you automatically generate secure passwords. The free password generator is easy to use and allows you to customize passwords up to 20-characters long. But ExpressVPN has a better password generator — it lets you create passwords up to 50 characters, you can use it offline, and it even lets you generate 5 secure passwords at the same time.
RUSVPN Privacy & Security
RUSVPN has a clear no-logs policy — it doesn’t log any personal information like your IP address, websites you visit, or files you download. RUSVPN only collects your email address when you create an account. While it’s great that RUSVPN has a strict no-logs policy, I’d like to see the VPN provider conduct an independent audit (like ExpressVPN and VyprVPN) to prove it doesn’t store user data.
Overall, RUSVPN has a strict no-logs policy and is located in a country outside the jurisdiction of the 5/9/14 Eyes Alliances.
RUSVPN Speed & Performance
I ran speed tests on my Windows PC on servers in all 50+ countries where RUSVPN has a server to determine my average VPN speeds. I had the fastest speeds while connected to a local server in my country (Romania) and other nearby European nations, and I also maintained decent speeds for browsing and torrenting on distant servers in the US, Canada, Brazil, Japan, Saudi Arabia, and Peru.
First, I ran a speed test without being connected to the VPN to get a baseline of my internet speeds:
RUSVPN doesn’t have a quick-connect feature that connects you to the fastest server for your location like many top VPNs (ExpressVPN, ProtonVPN, and Private Internet Access), so I manually connected to a local server in Romania. Here are my speeds:

Overall, I was happy with RUSVPN’s speeds — it maintained pretty fast speeds across most local and distant servers.
When I used a local server, my speeds slowed down by 89%. But Romania has very fast internet speeds, so my speeds were hardly affected — websites and 4K videos instantly loaded and 4K videos didn’t buffer when I skipped through them.
When I was connected to distant servers in the US and Peru, websites loaded in 5 seconds, 4K videos loaded in 10 seconds, and I experienced minor buffering while skipping through them.
However, my download speeds remained fast across all servers — I downloaded a 22 GB torrent file in 25–30 minutes while connected to a US server.
RUSVPN Servers & IP Addresses
RUSVPN has 1,200+ servers in 50+ countries. Its server network is much smaller than other top VPNs — ExpressVPN has 3,000+ servers in 90+ countries and CyberGhost VPN has 7,400+ servers in 90+ countries. Even so, RUSVPN’s servers are located in most parts of the world (except in Africa), so most users will be able to find a nearby server to get fast speeds.
I like that RUSVPN displays the server load (how many active users are connected to a VPN server) to allow you to quickly find servers with fast speeds. I tested the feature and the servers with a low load percentage were significantly faster than the servers with medium or high load. RUSVPN uses a color-coded system to help you find the servers with low load (green is for low load, yellow for medium load, and red for high load).
Unfortunately, the server load isn’t displayed on Android and iOS, and the system that RUSVPN uses to identify fast servers isn’t accurate. Instead of the server load, on Android and iOS, RUSVPN displays Fast tags (small boxes with Fast written in them) next to the fastest servers for your location. RUSVPN tagged servers in Canada and the US as Fast, but in my tests, they weren’t faster than servers in my country (which didn’t have a Fast tag).
RUSVPN allows torrenting on all servers, but it recommends using servers in Poland, Switzerland, and Spain to get the fastest speeds. In my tests, I had fast torrenting speeds on all server locations, but I noticed slightly faster download times on each one of the recommended servers.
Overall, RUSVPN’s server network is smaller than other top VPNs, but it has servers in most parts of the world so it’s easy to find a nearby server to get fast speeds. Also, it allows torrenting on all servers.
RUSVPN Streaming & Torrenting
RUSVPN is terrible for streaming — it doesn’t work with any of the popular apps like Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, Disney+, and BBC iPlayer. But RUSVPN works with less-known sites like VRV, Sony Crackle, Crunchyroll, and CBC.
If you’re looking for the best VPN for streaming Netflix and other top streaming services, I strongly recommend ExpressVPN.
RUSVPN is good for torrenting — all of its servers support P2P traffic, it works with the most popular torrent clients (I had the fastest speeds with qBittorrent), and it even has P2P servers in Spain, Switzerland, and Poland that are optimized to provide faster speeds than other servers.
Even still, there are much better torrenting VPNs out there. For example, ExpressVPN allows P2P traffic on all 3,000+ servers and ProtonVPN has 175+ dedicated P2P servers that provide the fastest speeds and best security.
Overall, RUSVPN isn’t good for streaming, but it’s good for torrenting. While it can’t access top streaming sites like Netflix, Amazon Prime, and BBC iPlayer, RUSVPN supports torrenting on all servers, works with top torrenting clients, and has a handful of recommended servers that provide faster download speeds.
RUSVPN Plans & Pricing
RUSVPN has a monthly plan and yearly plans, and each plan allows 10 simultaneous connections, which is above the industry average of 5–7 connections.
RUSVPN’s monthly and yearly plans are competitive with many of the top VPNs (its best-value plan costs only $1.99 / month). Even so, all of these competitors offer better value than RUSVPN because they have feature-rich apps, are easy to use, work with tons of streaming sites, and have much better customer support.
RUSVPN accepts major credit cards, Bitcoin, and WebMoney and backs all plans with a 30-day money-back guarantee. However, it’s very important to note that the money-back guarantee is not a clear, no-questions-asked refund policy. RUSVPN will only refund 100% of your money as long as you don’t exceed 1,000 MB of data — you can easily reach the limit by watching 1-2 hours of HD videos or downloading a large file. What’s worse, RUSVPN doesn’t display your data usage or warn you about your data usage. I also don’t like how the only place it displays this data stipulation is under its refund policy, and not on the main pricing page.
Overall, RUSVPN has cheap plans and allows 10 connections, but the 30-day money-back guarantee is honored only if you use less than 1,000 MB.
RUSVPN Ease of Use: Mobile & Desktop Apps
The desktop apps are intuitive and I like that the apps tell you what the kill switch option does. That said, during my tests, the Windows and macOS apps would sometimes freeze and I’d have to close out and restart the app.
The mobile apps are easy to navigate, include short explanations for their settings, and the iOS app even has a kill switch, which is rare for iOS. However, the Android and iOS apps were also very glitchy in my testing — I experienced frequent crashes and the apps often froze when I opened them.
All of the VPNs on our list of the best VPNs in 2023 have excellent apps that come with clean designs and don’t have any issues.
Overall, RUSVPN’s apps freeze and crash often. But at least the mobile and desktop apps are easy to use and secure.
RUSVPN Customer Support
RUSVPN’s email support representatives aren’t knowledgeable. When I tested RUSVPN’s email support, I usually heard back in 4–5 hours (which is good), but I received vague and incomplete answers. For example, it took multiple emails and responses from several different representatives until RUSVPN completely answered my question. And when I asked multiple questions in the same email, the reps only answered the first question and ignored the rest.
The best VPNs like ExpressVPN, Private Internet Access, and CyberGhost VPN offer multiple platforms for customer support, including thorough troubleshooting guides, FAQs, knowledgebase articles, and video tutorials, as well as responsive and knowledgeable 24/7 live chat representatives and email support.
