Anonymous VPN is a subpar VPN — it’s pretty secure, has decent speeds on local servers, comes with easy-to-use apps, and is an ok choice for torrenting, but there are better VPNs out there (ExpressVPN is my favorite in 2024).

While Anonymous VPN protects user data with industry-standard VPN security features like 256-bit AES encryption, full leak protection, and a no-logs policy, there are no advanced features like perfect forward secrecy, and there are no extra features like split-tunneling. Plus, it’s awful for streaming, it has slow speeds on distant servers, it doesn’t have a native app for iOS, it’s missing live chat, it doesn’t have any servers in the US, and it has a lousy refund policy.

Anonymous VPN allows only 3 to Unlimited simultaneous connections (the industry average is 5–7) and has expensive plans. I spent weeks researching and testing Anonymous VPN to see how it compares to the best VPNs on the market.

I think Anonymous VPN is OK for general browsing and torrenting — it supports torrenting on all of its servers, works with top torrent clients, has good downloading speeds on nearby servers, doesn’t log what files you download, and doesn’t leak your data.

But Anonymous VPN doesn’t include any high-level security features or cool extra features, and it doesn’t work with any of the popular streaming apps, including Netflix. Overall, Anonymous VPN is pretty secure and has good speeds on local servers for some online activities, but it fails to meet the expectations I look for in a top-notch VPN.

Anonymous VPN Features

Anonymous VPN has the following industry-standard VPN security features:

• 256-bit AES encryption — Protects your data with the same encryption used by banks and governments.
• No-logs policy — Doesn’t collect data about the websites you visit or the files you download.
• Kill switch — If your connection to a VPN server disconnects, a kill switch automatically disconnects you from the internet to prevent data leaks. However, it’s only available on Windows (I like how ExpressVPN has a kill switch for all apps).

Anonymous VPN uses OpenVPN and IKEv2/IPSec protocols. They’re both fast and secure, but Wireguard is much faster than OpenVPN and IKEv2/IPSec. Other VPNs that offer WireGuard, like Private Internet Access, provide some of the fastest speeds out there, so I’d like to see Anonymous VPN add WireGuard in the future.

I’m a fan of how Anonymous VPN comes with full leak protection against IPv6, DNS, and WebRTC leaks — but just to make 100% sure, I ran a leak test on a server in each of Anonymous VPN’s 23 countries, and I was impressed that none of the servers reported any leaks.

Overall, Anonymous VPN provides all of the basic security features, but you don’t get anything else. I’d like to see the provider add advanced features like RAM-only servers and perfect forward secrecy, and convenient extra features like split-tunneling, an ad blocker, and a built-in speed test.

Anonymous VPN has a strict no-logs policy — the privacy policy states it collects what servers you connect to, what time you connected to them, and the amount of data you use, but Anonymous VPN claims that none of the data is connected to you.

But before I can 100% trust the terms of Anonymous VPN’s privacy policy, I’d like to see the provider conduct an independent audit of its no-logs policy to prove it doesn’t store logs of user data — VPNs like NordVPN have had their no-logs policies independently audited and verified multiple times.

Anonymous VPN is based in Gibraltar, is a territory of Great Britain, and as such, is part of the 5/9/14 Eyes Alliances (a group of countries that share security data). But since Anonymous VPN doesn’t collect and store personal data, even if the government demands user data, Anonymous VPN wouldn’t have any to turn over.

Overall, Anonymous VPN has a strict no-logs policy, but it hasn’t been verified.

Anonymous VPN Speed & Performance

I ran speed tests on my Windows PC in all 23 countries where Anonymous VPN has a server. I experienced the fastest speeds when connected to a nearby server in Canada (I live in the US, but Anonymous VPN doesn’t have any servers in the US), but I encountered slower speeds when connected to a server on the other side of the world from me.

First I ran a speed test without being connected to a VPN to determine my baseline speed. Then, I used the quick connect feature, which automatically connected me to the best server based on my location (I was connected to a server in Canada). Here are my speeds:

When I connected to the closest server to me (in Canada), my speeds only dropped by about 18%, which is pretty good — websites loaded in 1–3 seconds, I watched HD videos on YouTube without buffering, and it took me about 20 minutes to download a 10 GB torrent file, which is decent.

When I connected to a server in Australia, my speeds were only reduced by about 22%, but websites took up to 5 seconds to load, my HD YouTube videos took 5–7 seconds to start, and the same 10 GB file took around 40 minutes to download.

Overall, Anonymous VPN has good speeds on nearby servers, but I was not happy with some of the significant slowdowns I experienced on distant servers.

Anonymous VPN Servers & IP Addresses

Anonymous VPN has an unspecified number of servers in 23 countries. I reached out to customer support to try and clarify Anonymous VPN’s server count but was told there are “several servers” in each location. This is an unacceptable lack of transparency when almost all of the top VPNs on the market have public server counts that are updated regularly.

Also, almost 75% of Anonymous VPN’s servers are located in Europe, leaving many parts of the world without a nearby server to connect to for the fastest speeds — and shockingly, Anonymous VPN is one of the only VPNs I’ve ever tested that doesn’t have a server in the US! Instead, I prefer VPNs like CyberGhost VPN, which has servers in 100 countries spread out all over the globe, including the US.

I like that Anonymous VPN allows torrenting on all its servers. Some VPNs only allow P2P traffic on servers in a few countries. For example, HMA VPN has servers in 210 countries but only allows file sharing in 6 countries.

Overall, Anonymous VPN doesn’t publish a full server count, and it only has servers in 23 countries (and doesn’t have a server in the US), but it does allow torrenting on all of its servers.

Anonymous VPN Streaming & Torrenting

Anonymous VPN is terrible for streaming. It doesn’t work with any of the top streaming services like Netflix, Disney+, Hulu, BBC iPlayer, and Amazon Prime.

It does support iOS via a third-party app (OpenVPN app), but it requires manual configurations and downloading extra files to change server locations — the process is not easy for beginners, and it took me 10 minutes and 2 different attempts to add Anonymous VPN to my iPhone. However, I like the simple design of the Android app. The Optimal Location feature, which automatically connects you to the fastest server, is handy. You can also manually select another server location if you want to — but that’s about it. The minimal settings shown are grayed out and don’t seem to be changeable.

The Windows app has a few additional features that include a kill switch, but I could never connect to a server when I enabled it. There’s also a setting that lets you select OpenVPN or IPsec as your protocol. The macOS app has the same basic interface, but it doesn’t include a kill switch.

Overall, Anonymous VPN has easy-to-use and secure apps for Android, Windows, and macOS, but there’s no native app for iOS.

Anonymous VPN offers customer support via email, frequently asked questions (FAQ), and support articles, but it doesn’t offer live chat.

Anonymous VPN’s email support team was responsive and provided helpful assistance, with support tickets being answered within an impressive time frame of 2–4 hours, and sometimes even less (many other VPNs take up to 8 hours). However, I personally prefer 24/7 live chat support for immediate answers to my questions. For example, ExpressVPN and Private Internet Access have excellent 24/7 live chat support with friendly and knowledgeable representatives.

I had to frequently use Anonymous VPN’s email support as its FAQs and articles only cover basic topics that aren’t too helpful. They’re missing important topics like security features and connection protocols.

Overall, Anonymous VPN’s customer support is decent. Its email support is good, but the FAQ and support articles lack in-depth information, and there’s no live chat.
