BulletVPN Review: Quick Expert Summary

BulletVPN has good security features, fast speeds for browsing, streaming, and torrenting, and easy-to-use apps for all of the major platforms.

BulletVPN protects user data with industry-standard VPN security features like 256-bit AES encryption and a kill switch. It also includes extras like Bullet Shield (which only allows you to connect to the internet if you’re connected to a BulletVPN server), split tunneling, and public Wi-Fi protection. What’s more, BulletVPN works with most of the top streaming sites, including Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, and BBC iPlayer (but can’t access Disney+). And it supports torrenting on all of its servers.

However, BulletVPN has some flaws that I can’t overlook. It lacks advanced security features like RAM-only servers (stores your data on memory instead of a hard drive, so all of your information is wiped each time the system is rebooted) and perfect forward secrecy (changes your encryption key to prevent hackers from accessing past and future keys). Its no-logs policy hasn’t been independently audited, it’s missing extras such as an ad blocker, and it doesn’t have obfuscation. In addition, some of its pricing plans are expensive, and there’s no live chat support.

BulletVPN allows up to 6 connections with a single account, offers monthly and yearly plans, and covers each purchase with a 30-day money-back guarantee.

Overall, BulletVPN is a pretty good VPN for all of your online activities, but I still believe there are many other providers that offer a much better value, including ExpressVPN and Private Internet Access.

BulletVPN Full Review

BulletVPN Full Review

I spent the last couple of weeks researching and testing BulletVPN to see how it compares to the top VPN on the market in 2023.

What impressed me the most was BulletVPN streaming support — it works with most of the top streaming services, has fast speeds (including UltraHD servers in 6 countries that are optimized for watching content in 4K video), servers in 55+ countries around the world (so you can connect to a server in your home country to watch streaming content while you’re abroad), and comes with Smart DNS, which allows you to stream on devices that typically don’t have an app for VPNs.

However, some of BulletVPN’s plans are a bit pricey, and it’s missing some advanced security features that I expect from a top VPN.

Overall, BulletVPN is pretty good for all of your online activities, but to be honest, it still falls short of being a highly-rated VPN.

BulletVPN Features

BulletVPN has the following industry-standard VPN security features:

  • 256-bit AES encryption. BulletVPN uses bank-grade encryption to make your internet traffic unreadable.
  • Kill switch. This feature automatically shuts down your internet access if you’re disconnected from the VPN server to protect your data from leaking onto the internet.
  • No-logs policy. BulletVPN doesn’t store any logs of the websites you visit or the files you download.

I like that BulletVPN also comes with full leak protection. I ran multiple IPv6, DNS, and WebRTC leak tests while connected to servers in 10+ countries and didn’t detect any leaks.

BulletVPN allows you to choose from multiple protocols, including WireGuard, OpenVPN, and L2TP. I was able to attain the fastest speeds while using WireGuard, which is one of the fastest protocols out there. However, WireGuard only comes with Android and Windows — the good news Apple users is you can manually configure it to iOS and macOS devices (BulletVPN’s customer service was really helpful in providing the step-by-step instructions to complete the process).

BulletVPN Features

BulletVPN also comes with some extra features like:

  • Split-tunneling. This feature allows you to exclude websites from the VPN, and it’s available on Windows and Android. In my tests, BulletVPN’s split tunneling feature worked perfectly and was easy to use. I watched a movie on Disney+ while connected to my local network (since the streaming site doesn’t work with BulletVPN) and downloaded a file while connected to the VPN.
  • Bullet Shield. With this feature enabled, you are only able to access the internet while connected to BulletVPN’s servers.
  • Public Wi-Fi Protection. This feature automatically connects your device to the VPN if it detects an unsecured Wi-Fi network, like at a cafe or airport.

BulletVPN Privacy & Security

BulletVPN has a strict privacy policy — it doesn’t log your IP address, your online traffic, your bandwidth, or your timestamps. However, I’m not a fan of how BulletVPN hasn’t conducted an independent audit to confirm its no-logs policy. I hope BulletVPN takes this action so it’s more aligned with top VPNs like ExpressVPN and TunnelBear, which each have conducted multiple audits.

BulletVPN Privacy & Security

BulletVPN is based in Estonia, which isn’t a part of the 5/9/14 Eyes Alliance (a group of countries that share surveillance data with each other).

Overall, BulletVPN keeps minimal records of your personal data and is headquartered in a privacy-friendly nation.

BulletVPN Speed & Performance

I conducted speed tests on servers in all 50+ countries where BulletVPN has a server to determine its average speeds. I had extremely fast speeds on local servers and decent speeds on distant servers — overall, my average speed loss was approximately 48%, which is above average.

First, I ran a speed test without being connected to a VPN server to get a baseline for my internet connection speeds.

BulletVPN Speed & Performance

Then, I used BulletVPN’s Quick Connect feature, which connects you to the fastest server based on your location — I was connected to a local server in the US. Here are my speeds.

BulletVPN Speed & Performance

Now, here are my speeds when connected to a distant server in the UK.

BulletVPN Speed & Performance

When connected to a local server in the US, my speeds decreased by only 7%. Websites instantly loaded, HD videos on YouTube started right away and there was no buffering, and I downloaded a 20 GB file in around 20 minutes.

When connected to distant servers in Europe, Asia, and Australia, I had an average slowdown of 80%. Despite the significant increase in speed loss, I still had decent speeds — websites and HD videos took 3-5 seconds to load, and I experienced minimal lag or buffering while browsing and torrenting.

Overall, BulletVPN maintains super-fast speeds on local servers and decent speeds on distant servers.

BulletVPN Servers & IP Addresses

BulletVPN has 150+ servers in 55+ countries, which is a medium-sized server network. Other top VPN providers have much larger server networks — CyberGhost VPN has 9,400+ servers in 90+ countries and ExpressVPN has 3,000+ servers in 90+ countries. However, BulletVPN has servers evenly spread out across the world, including in the Middle East and Africa, so most users can still find a nearby server to get the fastest speeds.

If you’re looking for servers that are fast enough for streaming 4K videos, BulletVPN offers UltraHD servers. Located in six countries (Germany, France, the Netherlands, the UK, the US, and Canada), these servers were 10% faster than the regular servers in my tests and allowed me to stream 4K content without any buffering. However, any of BulletVPN’s local servers provided me with fast speeds for uninterrupted streaming in HD.

I like how BulletVPN allows torrenting on all of its servers. Some VPNs like ProtonVPN and HMA VPN only allow P2P sharing in certain countries.

Overall, BulletVPN has a pretty good server network that allows most people to find a local server, offers UltraHD servers for maximizing speeds, and supports torrenting on all servers.

BulletVPN Streaming & Torrenting

BulletVPN is good for streaming — it works with top sites like Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, and BBC iPlayer. However, it doesn’t work with Disney+.

If you’re looking for the absolute best streaming VPN, I recommend ExpressVPN — it’s ranked #1 on our list of the best streaming VPNs and best VPNs for watching Netflix, it works with 65+ streaming sites, it has blazing-fast speeds across all servers, and it’s easy to use.

BulletVPN Streaming & Torrenting

BulletVPN is also pretty good for torrenting. Along with supporting P2P traffic on all of its servers, it works with all of the top torrenting clients like BitTorrent and Vuze.

However, there are still better VPNs for torrenting — my favorite is ExpressVPN because it allows torrenting on all of its 3,000+ servers in 90+ countries, has lightning-fast speeds, and its no-logs policy has been independently confirmed multiple times.

Overall, BulletVPN is a good option for streaming and supports P2P traffic on all of its servers.

BulletVPN Plans & Pricing

BulletVPN offers paid monthly and yearly plans that start at $2.49 / month and allows 6 connections. However, it doesn’t provide as much value compared to other top VPNs on the market like ExpressVPN, Private Internet Access, and ProtonVPN — all of these come with better security features, include better extra features, maintain faster speeds, and have servers located in more countries.

BulletVPN accepts credit cards, PayPal, and Bitcoin and backs each plan with a 30-day money-back guarantee.

BulletVPN Ease of Use: Mobile & Desktop Apps

BulletVPN Ease of Use: Mobile & Desktop Apps

BulletVPN has easy-to-use apps for iOS, Android, Windows, and macOS.

I installed BulletVPN’s app on my Android smartphone and iPhone in just 1 minute, and the process took 2 minutes on my Windows 10 laptop and MacBook Pro.

BulletVPN’s mobile apps are very intuitive and user-friendly. I really like the Quick Connect feature and how BulletVPN makes it very simple to manually connect to a server — countries are listed in alphabetical order, and there’s a most recent server option, as well as a search bar. Whether you’re a beginner or an advanced user, you’ll find BulletVPN’s apps are easy to navigate.

And since BulletVPN’s desktop apps are very similar to the mobile apps, they’re also intuitive. The Windows and Mac apps come with most of the same features as the Android and iOS apps.

Overall, BulletVPN has very intuitive mobile and desktop apps. They’re user-friendly, very easy to set up and use, and have quick and easy connection options.

BulletVPN Customer Support

BulletVPN Customer Support

BulletVPN has good customer support — it offers helpful and responsive email support, along with troubleshooting guides and frequently asked questions (FAQs).

However, I was disappointed to see that BulletVPN doesn’t offer any live chat support. Instead, you must submit an email form through the website or app in order to contact support. When I emailed BulletVPN, I received a reply within 24 hours, which is OK. However, most top VPNs like ExpressVPN and Private Internet Access respond to emails in under 5 hours. That being said, BulletVPN’s email support team was extremely thorough in their replies.

I found BulletVPN’s help center very extensive, and it includes many helpful troubleshooting/set up guides and the FAQs answered most of my questions.

Even though it doesn’t have a live chat option, BulletVPN’s customer support is impressive with good email support and comprehensive troubleshooting guides and FAQs.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is BulletVPN safe?

Yes, it has industry-standard VPN security features like 256-bit AES encryption, a kill switch, a strict no-logs policy, as well as public Wi-Fi protection and leak protection.

However, BulletVPN is missing other advanced security features like RAM-only servers, and its no-logs policy hasn’t been independently audited and verified. If you’re looking for a VPN with the best security, I recommend ExpressVPN or Private Internet Access because both VPNs come with all of these features, and much more.

Does BulletVPN offer a free VPN?

No, but BulletVPN backs all of its plans with a 30-day money-back guarantee, so you can at least test out the product risk-free and get a full refund if you’re not happy with it.

I don’t recommend using free VPNs anyway — they usually lack essential security features, are slow, limit how much data you can use, may log user traffic, and have glitchy apps.

Instead, I think you should invest in one of the top premium VPNs in 2023.

Does BulletVPN work with Netflix?

Yes, I was able to access Netflix in my tests. BulletVPN also works with other top streaming sites like Hulu, Amazon Prime Video, and BBC iPlayer (but not Disney+).

But, my favorite VPN for streaming Netflix is ExpressVPN — it maintains some of the fastest streaming speeds in the industry, offers servers in 90+ countries, and has intuitive apps for all platforms.

Is BulletVPN good for torrenting?

Yes, BulletVPN allows P2P traffic on all 150+ of its servers, works with top torrenting clients, and has very fast download speeds. It also comes with split tunneling (to help you get even faster speeds), a kill switch, and a strict no-logs policy.

However, ExpressVPN and Private Internet Access are my favorite VPNs for torrenting, as they both allow torrenting on servers in more countries, have faster speeds, advanced security features, and their no-logs policies have been independently verified.
