Read on to learn how TASSTA is transforming mission-critical communication for a more secure, efficient, and connected world.
Can you share a bit about your background and what brought you to TASSTA?
My journey in mission-critical communications began over 15 years ago, working with professional mobile radio (PMR) networks like TETRA. I studied in Stuttgart, Germany, and kickstarted my career at Rohde & Schwarz Bick Mobilfunk GmbH, immersing myself in the technical details of radio networks.
Later, I founded TESS Engineering in Dubai, leading a team that handled radio network integration, commissioning, and engineering projects across the Middle East, Africa, and Asia. We worked with some of the most advanced mission-critical systems available, which helped me understand both the strong points and weaknesses of traditional radio communication.
After countless conversations with partners and end-users, I recognized a growing demand for more flexible, software-driven solutions that could complement existing radio systems and support digital transformation. That realization led me to create TASSTA in 2013—a platform designed to be innovative, secure, and standardized across smartphones, tablets, and PCs, while still seamlessly integrating with legacy PMR systems. Today, TASSTA operates globally in Germany, the USA, UAE, Singapore, Brazil, South Africa, and India, driven by a passionate team dedicated to pushing the limits of mission-critical communication.
TASSTA provides mission-critical communication solutions. How do you see the landscape of critical communication evolving, especially with the shift toward digital and cloud-based platforms?
The field is moving away from narrowband radio systems toward broadband, 5G, and cloud-based solutions. Three major trends stand out:
- Broadband and 5G Adoption
Mission-critical services are increasingly using LTE and 5G for higher capacity and the ability to transmit multimedia content. - Cloud & AI
Cloud-based platforms and AI-driven analytics are powering real-time decision-making, predictive insights, and more agile operations. - Interoperability
Legacy radio networks must integrate seamlessly with modern IP-based systems, ensuring smooth communication channels across different technologies.
TASSTA is leading the way in meeting these trends by offering future-proof, scalable solutions aligned with evolving industry standards.
Many industries, from public safety to transportation, rely on seamless and secure communication. What are the biggest challenges organizations face in ensuring reliable communication, and how can they overcome them?
Organizations generally grapple with three primary challenges:
- Interoperability
Bridging older radio networks with new LTE and broadband systems. TASSTA’s solutions enable smooth connectivity between these technologies. - Network Resilience
They need consistent uptime. Our platform offers multi-network failover and load balancing, ensuring operations continue even if a network goes down. - Cybersecurity & Compliance
As threats evolve, encryption, multi-factor authentication, and secure architectures become non-negotiable. We build these protective measures into our solutions from the ground up.
With cyber threats increasing, secure communication is more important than ever. What best practices should companies follow to protect their communication infrastructure?
To safeguard mission-critical communication, organizations should:
- Implement End-to-End Encryption
Keep all voice, data, and video channels encrypted. - Adopt Multi-Factor Authentication
Restrict unauthorized access with MFA and strict access controls. - Use Secure Cloud or Hybrid Solutions
Retain granular control over sensitive data. - Conduct Regular Security Audits
Carry out frequent vulnerability scans and penetration tests.
TASSTA’s platforms incorporate these methods, helping clients maintain secure, compliant, and trustworthy communication channels.
How do organizations balance the need for interoperability between traditional radio systems and modern digital solutions without compromising security or efficiency?
The most effective path is a hybrid strategy that connects legacy radio systems with broadband networks—without leaving security behind. This can be done by:
- Investing in Interworking Functions (IWF)
These functions allow TETRA, P25, and LTE/5G users to communicate seamlessly. - Phased Migration
Instead of discarding entire systems all at once, gradually roll out digital solutions. - Encrypted Gateways
Gateway devices that encrypt traffic between radio and broadband networks ensure security remains tight.
TASSTA’s interoperability solutions enable organizations to integrate these technologies step by step, maintaining both efficiency and data integrity.
What’s next for TASSTA? Are there any upcoming innovations or trends in mission-critical communication that you find particularly exciting?
We’re honing our focus on several vital developments that will shape mission-critical communication in the coming years:
