Zoho Vault Review: Quick Expert Summary

Zoho Vault is a good password manager for businesses and families — its plans are really affordable, all paid plans support unlimited users, and as a business user, you get access to useful tools for managing and securing company data.

The provider comes with password sharing, auto-filling, a password generator, and multi-device sync. It also includes other features:

  • Password Assessment Report — Zoho Vault alerts you if you’re using weak passwords, reused passwords, or passwords that contain dictionary words or usernames.
  • User management and auditing — Zoho Vault lets you easily manage team members and audit their actions (for example, seeing what action they took and when they did it).
  • Zero-knowledge architecture — The provider doesn’t keep any of your data on its servers (not even your master password).

I think Zoho Vault is great, but I still have a few minor complaints — there’s no way to recover your master password if you forget it, the password auditing feature doesn’t tell you if your logins have been compromised in a breach (like 1Password’s Watchtower does), and there’s no live chat support.

Zoho Vault has a free plan and several paid tier-based subscriptions. Its free plan is really good for individual users, as it comes with most password management features you’d need. And its paid plans provide good value for large families and businesses (small, medium, and large). Plus, there’s a 45-day money-back guarantee for all long-term plans and a 30-day refund for the shortest plan.

Zoho Vault Full Review

Zoho Vault is a good password manager mainly geared toward businesses — it comes with many useful security tools for keeping company data safe, like user auditing and monitoring, cloud backup, and emergency access.

I also think Zoho Vault is a good pick for large families, as its cheapest subscription allows you to add unlimited users. Plus, you get access to useful features like password auditing, a password generator, and auto-filling capabilities.

Zoho Vault Security Features

Zoho Vault Security Features

Zoho Vault secures your data with 256-bit AES encryption, which is the same level of security that banks and the military use. The encryption is only used on the client side, so only encrypted data is stored on Zoho Vault’s servers — that’s because the master password you create on signup is used for encrypting/decrypting your data.

The provider also uses zero-knowledge architecture, which means it doesn’t track your data or store it on its servers. In addition, it also means Zoho Vault doesn’t share your data with third parties.

The above also means Zoho Vault doesn’t know your master password. That’s good for privacy, but it also means the provider can’t help you recover it. You can reset the master password if you forget it, though keep in mind that means you’ll lose all your saved logins.

On top of passwords, Zoho Vault lets you secure other sensitive data, including bank accounts, Social Security numbers, health care information, payment cards, and Windows logins. You can even securely store sensitive files, which is great.

Zoho Vault Security Features

Using your saved logins is extremely simple. You just have to click the login link provided by Zoho Vault, and you’ll be taken to the login screen for the password you saved.

Zoho Vault also lets you audit the strength of your passwords. It generates a quick report that tells you at a glance if you’re using weak or strong passwords.

Zoho Vault Security Features

I like how much data this report provides. In addition to letting you know if a password is weak, it also includes other information, like if the password contains a username, if it contains a dictionary word, and if the login hasn’t been changed in the past 30 days.

Still, I think 1Password’s Watchtower feature is better. On top of telling you if you’re using weak passwords, it also alerts you if you’re using passwords that have been compromised in a breach.

Overall, though, Zoho Vault provides good password auditing. The feature is very easy to use, and I like how it provides tons of useful data.

Zoho Vault has browser extensions for multiple browsers, including Chrome, Opera, Edge, Firefox, Safari, Vivaldi, and Brave.

Zoho Vault Security Features

The extensions are really easy to use and convenient. They let you quickly view and edit your saved passwords and also add new logins. I also like how you can configure the extension to auto-lock after a specific amount of time, as this adds extra security.

I like Zoho Vault’s good password generator, which is available via the browser extensions and the web app. By default it generates 15-character passwords including uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols. You can toggle the password length up to 100 characters, and choose to include or exclude special characters, numbers, or uppercase letters. You can also choose whether to start the password with a letter or a number. While it’s not as customizable as NordPass’s generator, which lets you create passphrases, it’s still pretty good.

Zoho Vault’s User Management feature is very useful for teams, as it allows admins to quickly and easily manage active users or change roles for all users.

Zoho Vault Security Features

I also like how you can export the list of users in .CSV or .PDF format. This comes in handy if you need to create detailed reports about all of the members on your team.

In addition, you can create specific user groups — like a group for all the interns on the team. This is really helpful, as it makes it easier to keep track of all team members. You can also enforce MFA for all users in your organization for the best level of security. Zoho Vault supports multiple types of authentication, such as Google Authenticator, voice call, Yubikey, and text messages.

Zoho Vault allows admins to quickly view all user actions using the auditing tab. You can see who performed an action, what the action was (for example, generating a sharing key or generating a password assessment report), what IP address the action was performed from, and when the action was taken.

Zoho Vault Security Features

You can also export the user audit as a .CSV or .PDF file, which is useful if you need to regularly hand in user activity reports to your superiors.

Zoho Vault allows you to create backups for your Vault data, so that you don’t lose it in case of business data loss. You can choose if all or only specific users receive an encrypted copy of their data via email or cloud — I like this, as you could, for example, exclude employees who submitted a notice of resignation.

Zoho Vault Security Features

You can customize the backup to your liking — pick if it happens daily, weekly, or monthly, and choose which cloud backup platforms you want to use (like Google Drive, Dropbox, or Zoho WorkDrive).

Overall, Zoho Vault allows you to easily schedule backups to make sure all company data is safe in case of a data loss event. The provider’s backups are secure and work with many top cloud backup platforms.

Zoho Vault Plans and Pricing

Zoho Vault provides decent value, as all of its subscriptions come with unlimited passwords and devices, password auditing, a password generator, and auto-fill.

There’s also a pretty good free plan, which is fairly feature-packed. It offers unlimited password storage across unlimited devices, MFA, and a password generator. Even though it’s missing some helpful extra features like password sharing and emergency access, I still think it’s a good pick for individual users.

The Standard plan adds password sharing, unlimited users, cloud backup, and integration with Office 365 and Google Workspace — at $15.00 / month per user, it’s super affordable, too.

Professional is an affordable pick for companies. It supports unlimited users and has a few business-oriented tools such as intuitive password reports, breached password alerts, and emergency access. It costs just $39.00 / month per user.

Finally, the Enterprise subscription adds rebranding options, help desk integration, and syncing with Azure AD, Google Workspace, and Okta. It costs $50.00 / year per user, which is affordable. That said, while it provides good value for large organizations, I still think you should check our list of the best password managers for businesses, as you might find a better fit.

Zoho Vault also has a free 15-day trial on all of its paid subscriptions. I like how you don’t need to provide any payment details to qualify for the free trial. You get access to all of the features that come with each plan, but you can only add up to 5 users on the Enterprise free trial.

The provider also backs its paid subscriptions with a money-back guarantee — it offers a 30-day refund for its shortest plan and a 45-day refund for all long-term plans.

Zoho Vault Ease of Use & Setup

Zoho Vault is really user-friendly and simple to set up. When you create your account, you just need to provide an email address, choose whether you want to use the password manager for individual use or for a team, and create your master password. Make sure to store your master password somewhere safe, as Zoho Vault can’t recover it if you forget it.

Zoho Vault Ease of Use & Setup

Once you finish the signup process, you’re taken straight to Zoho Vault’s main dashboard. I find the design really intuitive, and I also like how there’s a product tour that shows you everything you need to know to get started.

Zoho Vault Ease of Use & Setup

Setting up passwords is very simple. You can manually add them, or you can just import them using various file types — such as .CSV, .JSON, .TXT, or .XML files. Zoho Vault allows you to import passwords from various sources, including popular browsers and other password managers (like 1Password, Bitwarden, and Dashlane).

Zoho Vault Ease of Use & Setup

In addition to the web app, Zoho Vault also has browser extensions, mobile apps, and a command-line interface (CLI) app:

  • Browser extensions — The provider has extensions for most browsers, including Chrome, Opera, Edge, Safari, and Brave. The extensions let you quickly view your passwords, add new passwords, and use the password generator.
  • Mobile apps — Zoho Vault has apps for iOS and Android, which are intuitive, allow you to add and manage passwords, and auto-fill your logins for sites and mobile apps.
  • CLI apps — There’s a CLI app for Windows, macOS, and Linux, which allows you to search, add, and edit passwords in your Vault via command lines.

Overall, Zoho Vault provides a really intuitive web app, and it also comes with user-friendly mobile apps and CLI clients for desktop.

Zoho Vault Customer Support

Zoho Vault Customer Support

Zoho Vault provides access to the following support channels:

  • Email support.
  • Support library.
  • Phone support.

You can contact the email support reps via email or a ticketing system. I used both methods, and I usually received a response in about 24 hours, which is great. Also, the replies I received were helpful and informative.

My colleague from the US tested the phone support, and his call was answered in just 2 rings. On top of that, he received a detailed and really helpful response to his question. Zoho Vault offers phone support in English, which can be accessed locally in the US, UK, India, and Australia. These support lines are open 24/7 from Monday to Friday, but they’re closed over the weekend. Non-urgent support inquiries are paused over the weekend and resumed the following Monday. During weekends, for any urgent issues help is available via email support.

I’m also happy with the provider’s support library. It’s full of helpful support articles, including tons of frequently asked questions (FAQs) and user guides. Plus, I really like how most guides have screenshots.

One major drawback of Zoho Vault is that there’s no live chat option, which can be an issue if you need assistance in a hurry. Top competitors like Dashlane and RoboForm come with live chat support, so I’d definitely like to see Zoho Vault implement it in the future, too.

Overall, though, I’m happy with Zoho Vault’s customer support — it has great email and phone support, and a really helpful support library. My only complaint is that there’s no live chat support.

Is Zoho Vault a Good Password Manager in 2024?

Zoho Vault is a good pick for families and businesses. It comes with very affordable plans, allows adding unlimited users on all of its paid plans, and provides access to useful security tools for protecting company data.

The password manager comes with many useful features, including a password generator, auto-filling, password sharing, multi-device sync, and a password auditing tool. It also has zero-knowledge architecture and provides access to user management and auditing (very useful for businesses).

Still, there are a few drawbacks I need to highlight — the provider doesn’t have a way to recover your master password if you lose it, the password auditing feature doesn’t alert you if you use compromised passwords, and there’s no live chat support.

Zoho Vault has a really good free plan for individual users, as it provides access to almost all of the password management features you would need. And the provider’s paid subscriptions are affordable and offer a lot of value — plus, there’s a 45-day money-back guarantee for all long-term plans (the shortest plan has a 30-day refund).

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Zoho Vault free?

Yes, Zoho Vault comes with a free plan, which is actually pretty good. It provides access to many useful features, including unlimited passwords, unlimited devices, a password generator, password auditing, and multi-factor authentication. However, it’s limited to 1 user, and it lacks password sharing capabilities and cloud backup. While I like Zoho Vault’s free plan, I still think there are better options out there.

Is Zoho Vault secure?

Yes, the provider has very strong security features. It uses 256-bit AES encryption to protect your data, which makes it completely unreadable to anyone. Plus, it runs on a zero-knowledge model, which means it doesn’t store any of your data on its servers (including your master password). Zoho Vault also lets you secure your account with multi-factor authentication, has a password auditing feature for detecting weak logins, and provides access to a good password generator that helps you create secure logins.

Does Zoho Vault have an app?

Yes, Zoho Vault comes with several types of apps. The main way to access it is via a web app that works on most top browsers. In addition, the provider also has mobile apps for iOS and Android, browser extensions for tons of popular browsers (like Chrome, Firefox, and Safari), and command-line interface apps for Windows, macOS, and Linux.

Can Zoho Vault help me recover my master password?

No, as the provider uses zero-knowledge architecture. This means Zoho Vault doesn’t store any of your data on its servers, including your master password. You can reset the master password, but keep in mind that means you’ll lose all of your personal passwords.

If this is an issue, consider trying Dashlane instead, as it offers a couple of methods to recover your account and data if you forget your master password.
